Who we are
3D MEDICS brings students, educators, engineers, and healthcare professionals together to explore patient-specific modeling, hands-on training, research, and innovation at the intersection of medicine and 3D printing.
-
Complex anatomy can be difficult to understand on a two-dimensional screen. 3D printing creates new opportunities to see, hold, study, and discuss anatomical structures in a more meaningful way.
3D MEDICS is a collaborative community dedicated to advancing medical education and exploring innovative applications of 3D printing. We help learners develop practical skills while connecting students, clinicians, educators, and engineers around ideas that may improve how medicine is taught, studied, and practiced.
-
From medical image to physical model
1. Identify the objective
We begin with a clearly defined educational, research, or approved clinical-planning question.
2. Create the digital model
Appropriate imaging data is segmented to isolate the anatomical structures relevant to the project.
3. Prepare and print
The digital model is refined, scaled, prepared, and produced using 3D-printing technology.
4. Learn and improve
The finished model can support anatomical education, project evaluation, collaborative discussion, or approved planning activities. Feedback helps improve future projects.
-
Our mission is to promote the use of 3D printing in medical education and innovative patient care.
By creating opportunities for learning, research, and interdisciplinary collaboration, we aim to foster a culture of curiosity and prepare future healthcare professionals to thoughtfully use emerging technologies.
We believe meaningful innovation begins when passionate people come together to learn, experiment, and solve real problems.
-
Students
Develop practical skills, explore research opportunities, meet mentors, and discover how technology can contribute to patient care.
Clinicians and Educators
Explore anatomical models, educational applications, research collaborations, or potential patient-specific modeling projects.
Engineers and Community Partners
Share technical knowledge, support interdisciplinary projects, sponsor educational opportunities, or help expand access to medical 3D-printing technology.
Our three pillars
Learn. Create. Collaborate.
Medical Education
Learn the foundations of medical 3D printing through seminars, workshops, instructional resources, and hands-on experiences. Participants explore the complete process from medical imaging and digital modeling to printing and post-processing.
Patient-Specific Modeling
Explore how medical imaging can be transformed into physical anatomical models for education, communication, research, and approved surgical-planning initiatives.
Research and Innovation
Connect with students, clinicians, engineers, and mentors to investigate new ideas, develop projects, evaluate outcomes, and contribute to the future of medical 3D printing.
